As some of you may know, I’ve recently revived my interest in painting after several decades of not picking up a brush. One of the advantages of teaching myself watercolour (a new medium for me) has been the discovery of some amazing artists online, whose work I can follow on a regular basis.
The painting above, of my cat, Rusty, is not by me (I wish it were!) but by a talented watercolourist called Alice Stevenson (aka The Well Read Watercolourist), whose work caught my eye some months back. Alice ran a competition last month, offering to paint a portrait for those who posted a picture of their pet, and her son pulled my name out of the hat!
I’m absolutely delighted with the resulting image, which shows Rusty on his favourite William Morris duvet cover (yes, it was bought to match him). I think she has captured his confident manner and direct stare beautifully.
The painting is away at the framer’s at the moment, but will be coming back in June, when I’ll show it to you again, hopefully alongside its sitter.
Thank you, Alice!
